Greetings, fellow theatre enthusiasts! Mark here, and I'm thrilled to share my insights and experiences from my time in CAODS' production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." As an adult member of the cast, it's been an absolute joy to be a part of bringing this beloved story to life on stage. So, without further ado, let's dive into the sweet and whimsical world of Willy Wonka!
For me, the most exciting part of bringing this show to the stage has been the opportunity to revisit the memories of the original film. It's incredible how the magic of that classic movie has been woven into our production, enhanced by the addition of wonderful songs that truly elevate the experience for audiences young and old.
Of course, no journey is without its challenges, and I've certainly faced my fair share. One particular hurdle has been mastering the lyrics to the Oompa Loompa songs – they're like Wonka's chocolate, mind-manglingly fantastic! But through dedicated practice, listening to the cast recording on repeat, and countless hours with the backing tracks, I've managed to conquer them.
Now, onto my favourite scene in the show – "If Your Father Was Here." It's a poignant and heartfelt moment that never fails to tug at the heartstrings. There's something truly beautiful about the way it captures the longing for a loved one who's no longer there.
And speaking of favourites, let's talk chocolate! Anything from Hotel Chocolat gets my vote – there's just something irresistibly decadent about their creations.
If I could invent a new chocolate bar, it would be one that doesn't rot your teeth! A delicious indulgence without the guilt – now that would be a game-changer.
As for my favourite character in the show, it has to be Mr. Salt. Poor chap is clearly under the thumb big time, and his plight adds an extra layer of depth to the story.
Now, you might be wondering how I prepare to get into character for a performance. Well, it's all about routine – arriving early, getting everything ready in the dressing room, and indulging in some honey, lemon, and hot water for vocal warmup. Finding a quiet moment before curtain up helps me centre myself and focus on the task at hand.
Local theatre holds a special place in my heart, and I firmly believe it's vitally important for fostering friendship, learning, encouragement, and personal development. It's a vibrant community that I'm proud to be a part of.
In addition to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," I've had the pleasure of taking part in other CAODS productions such as "Elf the Musical", "Evita," "The King & I," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," and "Sister Act." Each one has been a unique and rewarding experience that has enriched my love for the stage.
Now, why should audiences come and see our show? Simple – to be transported into a world of pure imagination! With its enchanting story, memorable characters, and toe-tapping tunes, it's an experience that promises to delight and inspire audiences of all ages. So come join us on this magical journey – you won't regret it! 🍫✨
