Kate: Embracing the Role of Grandma Georgina

Hello, fellow theatre enthusiasts! Kate here, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share my experience with you all as I take on the role of Grandma Georgina in our production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." It's been an absolute joy to bring this iconic character to life on stage, and I can't wait to tell you all about it!

First things first – let's talk about Grandma Georgina's unique situation in the first act. That's right, I get to stay in bed for the entire first act – and let me tell you, it's every bit as wonderful as it sounds! Who wouldn't want to spend their time relaxing in bed? Although, I must admit, the idea of having to eat cabbage soup doesn't sound quite as appealing...

As I take on the role of Grandma Georgina, my hope is that the audience will walk away feeling like they've just witnessed something truly special. Our production is filled with vibrant characters, brought to life by our brilliant cast, and I'm certain that the audience will be humming along to all the wonderful music long after they've left the theatre.

Now, let's talk chocolate – the ultimate indulgence! For me, nothing beats Cadbury chocolate, especially those delicious Cadbury Creme Eggs! Of course, I wouldn't say no to a Twirl, a Flake, or even some Whole Nut or Giant Buttons. Let's just say I have a bit of a sweet tooth!

When it comes to my favourite song in the show, it has to be "If Your Father Were Here." It's such an evocative and beautifully sung piece, performed with incredible emotion by Sarah Holt. It never fails to tug at the heartstrings.

My journey with CAODS began way back in 1996, and I've been fortunate enough to perform with them almost every year since. From classics like "The King and I" to modern hits like "School of Rock," I've had the opportunity to be a part of so many incredible productions. And now, I find myself cast as a 'Grandma' – but hey, who's complaining? It's a role I've come to embrace with open arms!

Lastly, I can't help but mention the original film and its unforgettable music. Songs like "The Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination" have captured the hearts of audiences for generations and seeing them come to life on stage at the beautiful New Theatre Royal is an experience like no other. Trust me, you won't want to miss it!

Thanks for joining me on this journey, everyone. Until next time, keep spreading joy and indulging in life's little pleasures – just like Grandma Georgina! 🍫✨
