Email and letter sent to all members

Hello all,

Following a recent meeting of the Committee, I am now contacting you with an up-date on the current position of the Society.

You will be aware that our financial position has been difficult for the last three to four years. ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ was highly acclaimed and is a show we can be proud of; but, unfortunately, the losses incurred were not sufficiently recovered during ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Annie Get Your Gun’.

We had hoped that the popularity of ‘Fiddler’, on the basis of the performance of that show ten years ago, would restore our financial position, but whilst again it was a critical success, the unfortunate economic climate affected ticket sales and made the Society a loss of £7,000.

The Society is unable, therefore, to take on the risk of a two-week show at this time and it is with regret that I have to inform you that CAODS will not have a performance in 2010.

On a brighter note, we wish to build on the success of our ‘Walk Through the West End’ show, which, as you are aware, is profit-making and this will, of course, be showing at the Drill Hall in June.

Please be assured that the Committee will be looking at a Business Plan which will, hopefully, put us in the position of enjoying our major annual productions, as soon as possible.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or suggestions. (All those not on e-mail will, of course, be contacted by letter).

By the way, we are also in the process of finalising arrangements for an AGM, once a date has been set I will contact you again with details.

Best wishes.

Kate Fenn

Hon Secretary
